Stoop Galleries ltd. was founded in 2002. I started this business with a gas bottle that I borrowed, (including the money for the LPG) from my flat mate, which I had to bring back home every night. I have moved since from Murrells Cottage into Belfast Store, the main building on the lake front. This building is a re-build from original materials that have been stored when the old town was flooded due to the dam in Clyde. A rather beautiful building with T&G timber ceiling and flooring, schist walls and also a built in workshop. (until 2009)
The main objective is to run a successful business and to be good at what I do. This venture is now employing 4 people, with a 120m2 Gallery and a 130m2 workshop with the capacity to deal with the demand of one-off commission works, that has dramatically increased over the last 2 years
I also often get ask what the techniques are and if they are sculptures or a picture on metal etc. Your decision, since it is a personal opinion. My opinion is: that the work has to grab, or move you. Inspire you to get up and be in good spirits. I personally always look for a skill, not just a talent. I rate endurance (to spend 24 hrs straight in the workshop) as a skill. If any of those attributes are missing, I don’t care for it, regardless of who the Artist is what it’s meant to be or express. I personally need to like it for those reasons.
At the end of the day, Art Works need to be sold, regardless the amount, to put a tangible value on it. |
